Architects and the Ways they Can Affect our Daily Lives

Robert Ivy, serving as the CEO of the American Institute of Architects, has been leading a number of projects in the past few years. The professionals at the AIA have been working towards more collaboration between architects and professionals of other fields such as interior design, environment, psychology, tech, and many others.

The leader of the AIA, Robert Ivy, believes that there is a lot potential in the future of architecture and other fields of professionals from various backgrounds start working together more directly more often. Ivy is a strong supporter of collaboration and interdisciplinary projects between architects and professionals from other fields. He encourages the members of the American Institute of architects to work closely with other professionals on a variety of projects.

Another thing that Rober Ivy is a proponent of has to do with public health. He believes that architects can contribute to public health as they are primarily responsible or the look and feel of towns and cities. They help to establish out the living environment and can influence the way we feel throughout the day based on out surrounding such as the buildings we go to work and study or hang out.

As an example for this, Rober Ivy gives the New York Central Park. Back when it was but a few trees and bushes, Central Park was not created as a recreational area but rather as a cosmetic enhancement. The buildings behind the park were less than easy on the eyes, and Ivy points out that the lack of beauty in the area influenced people passing by. That was why it was hidden. Years later the park became a recreational area.

Up to date, architects can change the designs of building for the better to make people feel more light and fresh and to get more fresh air and sunlight while indoors. That means more windows to let in light as well as windows that can open easily throughout the day to allow for air circulation instead of using machines for that. The temperature can also be regulated with good insolation and using materials that retain heat better. The quality of air can be improved as well by placing fountains and opening windows inside the building. The sight and sound of flowing water are known for its calming effects.

Architects also have the power to affect the environmental sustainability. By using sustainable materials in the building, they can contribute greatly to improving the environment and promote more conscientious sourcing and use of materials. It is a large movement, and it would take years to make the transition as this is essentially a mindset that needs to be on a global scale, according to Ivy.
